Notes from a workplace contemplative—where the inner life meets the outer setting

I’m an average middle-class worker, a registered nurse, pursuing integration of work, home, and community. One seamless, healthy existence lived out in many contexts, seeking to move with openness and curiosity first, then advocacy; Held as a small, beloved part inside a much larger, mysterious story. I draw on many perspectives and disciplines to explore how my/our participation in a broken system may contribute to wholeness, reconciliation, and (if at all possible) redemption.

Change and loss

Change and loss

All change is loss. So don’t ask me to let go if there isn’t something to reach towards. How can I let go of something so meaningful if I’m not clear of what I’m moving towards, how can you ask me to do that?

Or worse, how can I expect someone else to create that meaning for me? Why would I give that power away?

If I can’t avoid the chronic grief and emotional exhaustion that constant change brings, the very least I can do is make it all mean something that revitalizes me.
